Help(less) Desk (1 of 2) 4 October, 2007 at 8:26 pm
Few days ago I called a help desk, to provide the “more information” they requested in a uspost letter. They’re request for information was in response to my sending them a letter with information in it. They were unable to identify the Reference Number (Which I had copied off their previous correspondence for just such an eventuality). So I call to give it to the guy on the phone.
He asks for the reference number. I have 3 numbers from their stuff, which is “reference”? It starts with zeroes. OK, great. “SRN00″ “No, it starts with zeroes” “Right. SRN0-” “The reference number” “I know. SRN: 0″ “No sir, I need the number that starts with zeroes.”
“I don’t show any correspondence on this account” “I know, that’s b/c you needed me to call in with the RefNum so you could associate the correspondence to my account” “There’s no correspondence.” “Yes there is ; –” “No, sir, I’m looking at your account”
So I explain it to him again, slower, with smaller words, and more volume. B/c i’m frustrated more than it helping. and b/c i’m trying very hard not to use words that rhyme with “brasspucker” :o But, it appears there’s no correspondence on my account. And the # on B that would, presumably, uniquely identify B and pull up A so that he could use X to put A on Y … is apparently meaningless b/c it doesn’t start with an assload of zeroes. “Have you tried faxing the reference number in?” “Won’t that just go to you, who can’t do anything with it b/c there’s no correspondence on the effing account?” “no” apparently the fax number goes to an office where (possibly) competent people work. at least two evolutionary steps up from pond scum rather than only one. He had no answer for why they put the helpdesk # on the letter (B) for me to call. Since it was obvious that he COULDN’T help IN ANY WAY.
