what do we do we paint paint paint 31 July, 2006 at 10:28 pm

feel like i should file this under “work” :o

spent the last two days painting the upstairs bedroom. since all the furniture was out for hte floor from a couple months back, we figured it was a good time to paint. and we decided we’d go ahead and paint the nursery, since i’m not gonna want to re-RE-paint it again in a couple years when we need it :o

doing a split wall. bottom 1/3rd (we levelled it at the window sill) is “sunset orange”, and the rest is some shade of sky blue. did the ceiling in a paler shade of blue. and except where the paint from the ceiling splotched on the wall, i couldn’t tell the difference between the ceiling and the old wall color. which is sad, b/c they were quite different (pale blue vs a fairly green blue)

anyway, did the ceiling yesterday, then we started taping off the border for me to paint the orange. ended up going out to home depot and picking up a “straight line tool”. it’s just like a plumb bob, but horizontal and less accurate (you hold the end and unwind to where you want. but you’re holding both ends and trying to figure out a level in between. it has hooks to hang off the line, but you have to wind the line in every two or three bits to re-chalk it. i think it came out MOSTLY straight) taped, and did the orange last night. it was splotchy and you could see the strokes b/c of the darker base

this morning after dropping k off, i did the ceiling a second coat to even it up, then the orange again. then lunch, blue. that took freakin’ FOR-EVER. like 2-3 hours. picked up k, dinner, went back to do second coat of upper blue and third of lower orange.

Both nights, kiir’s gone to bed before i finished. it’s a lotta work. and we intend to do a stencil border between blue & orange (found it on disney’s site with the household paints; it’s big up, small, big down, small , big up, etc, with a character stencil in each square. we’re doing a pooh theme, so it’d be pooh, piglet, tigger … we’re not sure how it’s goign to work out. last time i did stencils they were poor, but they were also pencil stencils, and these are real painting stencils so …) it’ll take a bunch of work, but we think it’ll look really nice.

in the meantime, i’m tired and i’m sore. and before the shower, i was dripping wet b/c the fans were off while I painted to keep the paint from drying badly (as it was, i couldn’t tell where i’d been if i took like a 2 minute break to drink some water; freakin’ paint dried!!!! apparently i was suckingall moisture from the room or something :o)
