mmm turkey sammich 20 April, 2007 at 11:42 am

So I just went to quiznos and picked myself up a smoked turkey sammich!

actually, being allergic to meat, that would’a been STUPID. but that’s what the receipt says. i actually got a double-cheese melt. except quiznos discontinued the double cheese … wtf?

and are you telling me the second cheese is the same price as turkey? usually cheese is cheap, buncha tightfisted bastards!

posts in future 16 April, 2007 at 9:09 am

OK, so, obviously we just had a baby.

Just a note, a lot of the posts in the near future will probably deal with the baby (which I’m sure you’ll take as a relief after most of them dealing with the puppy :p)

who knows, maybe the vitriol and swearing will reduce too.

i wouldn’t count on it though :p

cleaning like a banshee 2 April, 2007 at 10:07 am

well, the month-s long tirade of cleaning is ending soon. b/c the baby’s coming soon and time will be more limited :o

but this weekend was, basically, the last giant push. started off b/c my sister in law is coming up and we volunteered the futon as a bed. the futon is in the back room. the back room has been the dumping point for everything else in the house (and it bears noting that everything but the kitchen has been done, and the kitchen has too but it has more temporary clutter than entrenched mess) … 9 months of stuff getting shoved in. plus the reflooring of the living room pushed a bunch more in.

and saturday evening i took my life in my hands and went in :o about an hour in, K tried to come see what i was doing. came running up and … stopped. looked at the mess, then went back to kiir with a look like ‘mommy, daddy’s dead isn’t he?’ :o took me about 4 hours before i went around and worked my way clear again. and 3 big bags of trash. putting 4 boxes of books out of boxes and stacked on shelves (completely unusably) cleared up some space.

then sunday i decided to get under the stairs and organize that closet so i could put some stuff in there from the back. except that closet is filled with various comptuer bits (everything but the sun’s and the sun monitor joined the trash brigade) and lawn stuff .. crap. then i started working on the unfinished room to clear out some near the furnace (where the most recent clutter is) so i could put in the lawn stuff …

took me a lot of the weekend, but the basement is navigable and the futon is near-usable (there’s a tv on it, but i can move that ok). a lot more work to be done, but reasonably started. probably work on it more tonight and tomorrow. it may also be kindof a thing to do to get away some. after everyone GOES HOME in two weeks!!!

new leaves! 12 March, 2007 at 10:30 am

it’s spring, time for new leaves!

first off, we’re letting the krav memberships lapse when they come up for renewal. because I’ve spent 100$/month for a year and been fewer than half a dozen times. Maybe in a few years i’ll be in a place where I will go more often. 6 or 7 and desmond’ll be old enough to be going for the kids classes, i think, so if the level 1 adults is scheduled opposite the kids, I can do that way maybe. we’ll see. it’s 100$ we don’t got, and we’re not using

But! I’ve decided to start doing various things to try to help out my fitness in the “low impact and free” genre. friend on some forums has been doing stairs (he’s like 40% up everest by now, apparently; 2300 flights to everest, basically), so I figure I can do that when I want a bit to think and such. I’ll go and do the walk to the 7th (or 8th or 5th depending on which staircase) floor a few times (did 8th 3 times just now, so that’s 21 flights !)

Also looked at the map the other day and I think I can figure out how to get from my office to the monument mall, about 10-15 min walk there, then back. once it’s warmer still I’m thinking of bringing in my bag and changing outfits to go jogging or something. Or, like kiir suggested, maybe i’ll just walk for a while at first ;)

Also, been tracking my weight this year. down to 217.2, down from 220 beginning of the year. 220-something. wheeee

car bill 6 March, 2007 at 5:04 pm

so, dropped my car off this morning for the insurance appraisal. and apparently i get a rental car whilst it’s in for repairs :o AND i don’t have to pay for it!

holy crap! cool :o

anyway, got the call this afternoon. my 5.5 yr old chevy impala is worth 6-7k (4-5 if i try to sell it at carmax, obviously they want to make money off it :o). the repair bill? 4500$.

apparently i need a new quarter panel (it’s the part of the car in the back, rear to door, over the wheelwell). a new door. the frame needs a bit of pulling out but nothing significant or dangerous. and they’re going to be checking the alignment/etc b/c the hit came in through the wheel.

i’m in the rental until next week sometime :o but at least i don’t have to pay for the car, anything over the deductible on the repairs (fairly sure my deduct is still 250 … i hope i didn’t get around to changing that :o think i decided it saved me like 15$/6mo and wasn’t worth upping), or a new car payment

see, if they totalled my car out, my idea was to hijack my old car at my parents (79 volare), or one of their cars, for the summer at least. volare would be hot as hell in summer (mmm vinyl seats and an AC that hasn’t worked since reagan was president), but tolerable since i wear long pants and it’s only a 10-min trip anyway. in winter, however, the engine is slow to warm, doesn’t tick over well until it IS warm (thus making my 10 minute trip have a 30 minute warm-up at either end!!), and the heat kicked the bucket when i was still getting my undergraduate degree :o and i have way more trouble with cold (frostbite bad) than hot (heatstroke annoying). but i figured for the summer i could swing it, and maybe by fall i could talk my parents out of one of their other cars ;)

kiir wanted to get me a hyundai or such (like 10k car, of which hopefully the insurance payout would cover 7 or so). car parment would suck still :/ and since i’ve been looking at a subaru outback so we could have a good station wagon, it would be moving kinda the wrong direction :o

of course, the new plan is to get her a minivan and i get her car when it’s time to upgrade mine, so the kids may be in college before i get the subaru. and won’t it be time for a midlife crises by then or soemthing?

What type of Fae are you?

kiir keeps telling me to take the test again :o

Weekend notes 19 February, 2007 at 9:47 pm

Well, general bits and parts. K’s trainer came by yesterday to look at his “home environment” and give us suggestions on what we might need to do to get him ready for a home invasion by the blob. Mostly we’ve done what she was going to say, apparently, but she did want us to start “ignoring him” and carrying around the baby-doll, so he gets used to something else taking our attention, and so he can learn that when we’ve got baby we can’t play.

I just feel like a complete git wandering around with a baby doll in my arms :o what am I, an 8 year old girl playing with dolls? cripes :o

Put away all of the laundry (well, not all; 90%+ though; mostly have sheets and towels left, and some of my clothes where the dresser is blocked by the crap i threw in that room when i had to clear the floors). Went through a couple of the boxes and consolidated. Went through the filing cabinet, threw away (read: shredded) a bunch of documents. Like, the part where we’ve refinanced at least one mortgage every year since we moved in. We suck with money management :/

Didn’t paint the bathroom. Didn’t hang the shelves. Went to order the furniture for delivery, but apparently at ikea that just means “after you’ve bought it, we’ll d rive it home” and since part of hte problem here is that I can’t lift the stuff by myself … uh, not helping. But one of the parts we wanted is discontinued! DOH! (and it’s not at another ikea anywhere near by, either, I checked :o)

Sliced up my hand trying to take out the drain in the half-bath so i could actually make htat sink work :o tried to cook some over the weekend. The fondue tasted weak. The baked potato soup is all sweet and weird an’ shit. Not sure if we’re gonna eat the rest or toss it later this week :/

bloom off the rose? 14 February, 2007 at 11:06 am

so, last night i’m tossing and turning trying to sleep while kiir’s reading …

then she punches me in the kidney, gets up and throws a book at my face.

what’s up with that! eeeesh. she claims it was “an accident” because “the life insurance isn’t high enough yet” … i need to invest in kevlar pj’s …
