genius my ass 7 January, 2006 at 1:17 pm

went to the apple store about her laptop last night. it’s been crashing for a while, but in the last week it’s become unusable (crashing first thing in the morning in under half an hour …). got there abt 6:30 and after describing our problem we were asked if we had a genius bar appt. no, well, the next slot is at 8:30 (coincidentally, on the way in we’d made reservations at rainforest cafe for 8:30). fine, take that slot, go to dinner right then.

but i’m sorry, what’s the genius going to do with hardware? N OTHING! but apparently all issues are directed to the genius bar, b/c mac users are idiots and it’s easier this way.

so we’re sitting at the bar for like 10 minutes, there’s 4 employees at the registers and two wandering the store. OK, there’re only 3 registers, for starts :o fine, we sit. we sit. still sitting. absolutely no one is making any move to acknowledge our existence at the wholly empty and unmanned bar. i finally ask an employee, (8:35) and he says the guy should be out in a minute. but he’ll go check. lo and behold, once someone went to the back room and told him to get off his lazy ass and do his job, poof he bounds right out!

(i didn’t take my happy pill the last few days it’s making me nauseous ;o)

OK. So, changed to welbutrin last week. And just like in nov when i change lexapro->celexa, I get all kinds of sick. Head congestion, runny nose (and congested nose! HOW DOES IT DRIP WHEN ITS CONGESTED!), general cold, sleeping a lot, yadda yada

Hopefully this is just a transition thing, or maybe I just manage to keep catching something every time i change :o

sunday at the folks, then yesterday with her mom’s family … i spent probably half our stay sleeping on one sofa or another. at least i managed to drive home :o

thursday we’re off to NYC for a couple broadway plays and new years. hopefully i feel some better by then, b/ci’d hate to have paid for good seats and an outrageous sum for a hotel at new years, and then not enjoy myself.

*sigh*

K’s whining again, and i just keep losing my temper with him this weekend. it’s not really fair to him :/ maybe it’stime for another nap.

and the meds just keep changing 22 December, 2005 at 12:43 am

went in to the docs today, and she changed my scrip again. i’m now on welbutrin 300mg :o

this was b/c the celexa 40 was doing jackall. unfortunately, the lexa 40 seemed to have been working when i was doublign up the 20′s waiting on the scrip at the time.

but she forgot that, and thought the lexa hadn’t been working was why we went to celexa, so she was moving to welbutrin. when i explaine that that lexa appeared to be working when i was doing it 40′s, she stopped for a few moments (like a frozen robot from a movie) then decided we’d stick with the new scrip and if it didn’t seem to work well we’d go back to lexa

otoh, looking at the info on welbutrin on the web that i could find, looks like it might be better just b/c the selection of bits it’s used to treat are all things that we think i may be afflicted with, or am at least border on

less better living through chemisty 20 December, 2005 at 11:53 pm

Bleah.

I quit taking my celexa generic a couple days ago. Actually, t hat’s not true.

I forgot to take my celexa 3 days in a row last week, and was playing on the computer and generally having the energy to give a shit. That was a way up! By sunday, however, the other half of the issue came back and i was short tempered, bitchy, etc.

So I took my pill sunday night. Monday evening I get home, and i’m sitting around all “meh” and shit. no interest in doing anything except sitting on the sofa and watching TV or something.

So last night i skipped the pill again. i’m tetchy and a bit angry, but i was playing CoV earlier and went and watched some tv b/c I WANTED to watch the disc, not b/c i couldn’t think of anything else to do.

Gonna go to the doc’s tomorrow, see if i can’t get back on lexa 40′s. If not, then I’m gonna see if i can schedule an appt with a psychologist and get started that way instead :) hell, maybe i’ll even let them run tests to find out what various bits of shit are wrong with my mind.

medicinal changes 10 December, 2005 at 4:27 pm

Forgot to mention this earlier, oops :o

back around t-day, my doc gave me a new new scrip to take to the pharmacy, this time for celexa 40mg. apparently THAT doesnt’ cause any problems. changing my meds they don’t care about, raising my dosage throws them into a hissy however.

apparently the insurance had no beefs, eithre, as they coughed up and paid for it without a word. WTF! just b/c it’s not the same NAME as the old scrip it counts as entirely changed?

not that I’m complaining, since i’d've been way out of my 20′s otherwise. But I’m not sure the celexa’s doing enough. I’m not getting the moodswings quite as bad as I was, and I’m not as volatile. But I’ve also slipped heavily into a malaise. come home every night, sit at my computer for about 5 minutes before deciding i’m bored, then watch tv for hte rest of the evening.

And frankly, i’m still b ored, but at least watching law and order i can concentrate some and it’s ok. thinking i may need to go to a psych and get a real workup or something os i can get a custom melange of drugs to enable better living through chemistry.

*sigh*

Toilets: 2, Attriel: 3 5 December, 2005 at 8:43 pm

the toilet saga continued yesterday :/

one of hte toilets (living room) was leaking, dripping down over the washing machine. It had done it before (when we bought the house the “subflooring was weak” b/c the wood bits had partially rotted from the water) so I figured it was something related to that. For instance, the cast iron flange (the pipe-funnel-connector-thing in the floor tha the ring for hte toilet attaches to) was all rusty to hell and shit. So rusty, in fact, that it had been noticed before, since one of hte toilet-mounts was on some add-on piece under the flange lip.

So I bought a flange/floor extra-mount kit and a “closet ring” (which is hte part on top of the flange where the toilet bolts attach). Put in the kit, which raised the flange up some (i’t supposed to be 1″ higher than the top of the floor, so it was actually kindof in the right place now, actually), and went to attach the ring.

Except, sicne the ring is supposed to be the top of the flange, it doesn’t exactly go over the flange. more kindof ontopof the flange. But OK, directions on the kit say to drill holes to mount down the flange, I figure the ring is mounting on the flange, so i’ll just mount all the way down … except galvanized steel does not respond well to hand-held household electric drills. not even ones with bits designed for drilling metal :o

broke two bits (one into three pieces!!!) and decided to just mount the ring on the two exterior holes it had which were outside the range of hte kit. Figure that’s tight, the flange is “mounted”. did that with some wood bits to support the ring and mount through. now the toilet’s a little high on the center, so i had to put in some wood bits front and back to balance it. still a bit wobbly side to side, need to get it balanced properly and with more than just “what do i have laying aruond that i can use”, but it doesn’t appear to be leaking.

Of course, all of that, and I think it may have just been the seal wasn’t right when i set it the first time. but i didn’t want to be taking it out a third time :o

attriel: 2, toilets: 1 3 December, 2005 at 1:32 am

go me! i got both toilets replaced today.

After yesterday’s joy with hacksawing the bolts, today was just getting some tools os I could reasonable scrape out all the wax from the ring for a clean restart. put the first one in, attached tank, started up and it’s dripping … shit, did I tighten too much???

take it out to check, turns out that the “hair” I’d seen on the dispersal base of the tank was actually a crack. kinda like someone’d taken a hammer and chipped it, but the piece hadn’t fallen all the way out. just enough to leak all over :o

took that back, decided to pick up the second toilet while we were there exchanging the tank, got home, finished up with the upper toilet (it works! it fills, it stops, it flushes, refills, STOPS AGAIN! and it doesn’t appear to be leaking! woo!)

decided I’d go ahead and take apart the second toilet so I could set the bolts with caulk and let it dry overnight (the first one I didn’t really give it any time to dry … so the caulk was not entirely meaningful). decide I’m going to replace the tube that goes to the tank, too, since the one there looks fairly old (and I oculdn’t get it detached from the tank :o) took it off the valve and… and, uh … right. put the new one on and KIIIR! GET ME THE BUCKET! apparently the valve doesn’t tighten all the way closed :/

went to disattach the tank, but one of the bolts has … rusted solid. jesus. I started trying to get the saw in, but it didn’t appear to be working. but the mounting screws to hold the toilet down were fairly loose, so I took them off and just carried the toilet out and around the house. the other thought was getting a hammer. it keeps warning me that the ceramic is fragile and could break. good, then BREAK :)

turns out hte iron pipe flange fitting thingie jig thats there is all kindsa rusty. in fact, apparently when the contractor redid the subflooring in that bathroom he noticed that himself, b/c he had done some trickto get a bolt in, since the place it usually goes was kinda open instead of a slot like it should be. some trick I couldn’t reverse. i decided i wasnt’ going to hacksaw it and just went with leaving it where it was :o put in a bunch of caulk around each bolt, aroun the edge of the flange just in case, and let it set for 30-45 minutes before going back in and throwing a toilet at it :o toilet and tank went on fairly easily, attached, and it’s all kindsa flushy working now :o

but I should probably replace that valve. except that’s harder :o

maybe I’ll fix that hole in the ceiling …it’sonly been 8 months or so :o

yay for toilets 1 December, 2005 at 11:02 pm

what a fun way to spend an evening.

a few days ago “we” “accidentally” flushed a couple of those clorox toilet wand brushes. the picture on the box where it shows you throwing it away looks like the picture they show of you cleaning the toilet, it’s kinda hard to tell. I mean, other than the words under it saying ‘DO NOT FLUSH’ an’ all :/

and so begins a saga
