Psychotomy

Pi is quietly sleeping on the floor, and DK is watching Wall-E for the second time this morning already.

Kiir hasn’t been getting good sleep, all broken up and fragmented, with Pi sleeping against her back. Pi seems to be working on crawling around, so she wanders around in the bed some at night, making it harder to sleep :o So kiir asked me to stay home from work today so she could get some rest and not kill anyone.

DK woke up at 6 and went over to snuggle with her, and about 6:45 they came downstairs because he just wasnt’ sleep ready :/ He’s exhausted, he just won’t go to sleep yet. Figure I’ll make him lunch about 10, maybe a little before, and see if he’ll go down for his nap then. Hopefully he’ll wake up from nap less cranky, too.

So, today:

• Up at 7, took K out, started some more cleaning and laundry
• DK and Pi up at 8:45, put Pi on my back while I did dishes
• Gymboree for DK at 10, Pi and Kiir came with us
• Home, made lunch for everyone, and ate
• Pi and DK fell asleep on the way to the pick-your-own farm
• Berry Picking with DK, Kiir and Pi from ~1 to 2.
• Home, baths
• 4pm pictures for Pi’s 3mo, tried to get a couple with DK (failure!). Took DK on the carosel and got ice cream during pictures, walked around the mall some, got him fries, and pictures were ready to pick up now.
• Home, started rice for dinner, took K on a walk
• Getting ready to start on the rest of dinner, then eat …
• Then probably taking DK to the playground to run off some more energy
• THEN probably walks with Pi and K
• Pass out around 11

Day of rest my arse.

So, wednesday night I forgot to take my meds.

by thursday afternoon i was completely wrecked. by the time i got home I was having random and untriggered breakdowns.

i think maybe i need to up my meds again. or change them. because if missing a single dose trashes me out that badly, i don’t know that that’s an acceptable margin of error :/

most of friday i was pissy and moody still.

So, i miss one dose, the following day i’m totally tossed and the next day i was still recovering. 24 hours to kick in, 10 hours to flush out … crapola

so, i took dk up for his nap after lunch. he played in his room, but not interested in napping. i give up just as kiir’s bringing pi up and going to lay down to take a nap.

so I tkae DK downstairs, figure we’ll play xbox. frankly, he’ll probably fall asleep on my lap, but if not, no nap means early bedtime, so that’s fine too.

10 maybe 20 minutes in, kiir calls me to come get PI. Obviously I can’t hold pi while dk sits on my lap, so i save and quit the game so I can put something on for him to watch when we get back down.

excpet he decides to stay up and snuggle up to mommy. half an hour later, they’re both asleep (fairly sure K is keeping a corner of the bed warm too) and I’m sitting slouched in the dining room chair so pi can snuggle up and sleep on my shoulder …

meaning I’m the ONLY person still awake, and I can’t do anything but type on the computer or risk waking everyone else up. oi!!!

So, kiir was sitting at her computer and I’m reading news and such and suddenly there’s this grinding noise followed by a clatter and silence.

If DK had been up, I’d've been looking for where he was and what dish he dragged off a table or counter or something and broke. But he just went to bed :o

Turns out, apparently, the power supply on her computer (you know, the one I put in last week) seems to have fried out. I’ll need to dig the old one and the box from the trash so I can get the disc out of the drive and see if it’s the psu or if the whole board went tits up :/

so, 13 years ago I met my wife …

well, ok, 12.5, whatever

Anyway, we met and she was having trouble with her computer back at her dorm, so i offered to come over and look at it. mostly because i’m a know-it-all smartass who figured I could fix anything. Turns out that one of the case screws had it’s head stripped so it couldn’t be removed quite right. Over the next few days, I spent hours in her room working at it. Eventually I got it out using a hammer and a screwdriver. I literally chiseled the case apart around the screw and then pried it out … i might have voided the warranty, yaknow?

So, this weekend her power supply sounded like it was on it’s last legs. And yesterday it finally died off (wednesday). We picked up a new one and I was going to install it last night but didn’t get to it. Before work this morning, I figured “Hey, a power supply is like a 10 minute job, tops” and I popped open the case and removed the old one. And then the new one wouldn’t go in right. closed it up (so DK didn’t play inside the system) and went to work.

I just finished, after an hour. Got it in. All it required was a pair of pliers. There was a tab for lining up the psu or something. Only the new PSU, despite APPARENTLY being the same dimensions, seems to be an eight of an inch big. or something. So it was jamming and ending up at an angle. That’d've been my problem, ayup. Solution? I used the pliers to pry the metal so that the tab is no longer in the way. It’s screwed in and on rails, should be fine. I’m just glad it wasn’t the rails that were in the way :o

12.5 years, and I’m using the tools I have convenient to maul and abuse a case for my wife. It’s come full circle. I guess I’ll be wrenching something around in 2021 ;)

DK has decided of late that he is a big proponent of not sleeping.

He’s been going down between 10:30 and 11:30 for the last week or so, but we think that’s partially he’s been sick. Last night we tried putting him to bed ~9:30, and he was having none of it. We came downstairs, he ate the last mozerella sticks and went down pretty easy about 10:30ish.

And that’s happened a few times. Doesn’t go to bed, we have cheese sticks and a new diaper, bed.

So tonight we were going to try dinner over by 6 (which weekdays it generally is anyway), cheese sticks around 8, bed at 9. Except dinner didn’t get out until after 6:30, and he didnt eat much until the rest of dinner was out (we had crabcakes, but they wanted 30 minute in the oven, so I heated up leftover pasta w/ pesto for him ; his was out ~6:25, ours came out ~6:55). Dinner finished around 7:15. He started laying odown on my lap and all, so we went ahead and tried bedtime early. Nothing doing.

Came downstairs, he ate two cheese sticks, which was surprising because he didnt quite finish his second bowl of pasta. tried bed again, still no go.

Kiir took him up about 10. About 10:40 they called me up to snuggle on his otherside. About 11:10 he was finally out.

Oi. Needless to say, I’m not getting much chance to post lately :o

Had a Dermatologist appt this morning. End result — you have dry skin, it’s common this time of year and you scratch and it gets worse. Have some steroid cream (actually I think she prescribed ointment which I am going to HATE) for two weeks, come back then.

That was the short version.

Long version?

Arrived 9:50 for my 10:00 so I could fill out papers/etc like they asked. Turns out that was the same papers they mailed me, so I’d already done that part. That’s fine.

Wait in the waiting area until 10:20, they call me back to the exam rooms. They tell me to take off my pants and put on this crappy paper hospital gown thing. But I’ve been to these dances enough by now for other things. I had my PJs on under my pants. And that’s a pair of shorts. So I just took off my pants and waited in my shorts.

And waited.

And waited.

At 10:45 I texted Kiir to tell her I was still waiting, so she’d know.

At 10:50 the assistant opened the door briefly to say that they were backed up thank you for waiting it’ll just be a moment …

at 11:05 I was getting ready to call Kiir to tell her I didn’t think I was making it home in time to drive her to her 11:45 appt. With the snow and all, I needed to leave by 11:15 to get home and get back to her doc’s in time. But then the Dermatologist came in. She seemed nice enough.

For the three minutes I saw her! She came in, started diagnosing when she saw my legs from the door, looked a little closer with the light and gloves, decided she was right the first time, prescribed, warned me against using hte steroids for more than two weeks, and left.

By 11:10 I was back in my car …

an hour and a half I spent for a 3 minute appointment???? W T F???

*sigh* at least she didn’t say it was The Diabetes ™ :o

So, after I sent that email to PBS Kids about Super Why! on iTunes …

Haven’t heard back from them, but! i happened to notice that iTunes had a free ep of SW! up, and when I went to look, they actually have a whole Volume 2! ten new eps for DK’s viewing pleasure!

Now I’m seriously thinking of asking them to put the Word World eps up :o
