home remodeling, mon dieux 19 December, 2006 at 1:59 pm

saturday i was supposed to do the third bathroom.  put K in for the weekend for it and everything.  after kiir got up, we went out and checked to be sure they had what we needed at home depot before i take out the old one :o  did lunch, bought the xbox, some general shopping (limited to the places i didn’t have to wait to get into the parking lots :o) and wrapped/mailed some stuff to friends …

then i realized that it was too late to get the old bathroom out to the dump if i disassembled it, and i didn’t want to carry it around or store it or anything, so we punted on the bathroom this week :o  kiir’s going to confine K in our room (or his room may have space next weekend after salvation army takes every damned thing wednesday ;) while I do the parts that would be bad for puppies :o
at least the other two bathrooms work again.  hopefully won’t take too long next week.  b/c then i also have two weeks to clear (not clean, CLEAR) the first floor so they can do the new hardwood flooring :o  wheeee

wheee (not wiii) at 1:54 pm

this weekend we were going to try and hook up with a nintendo revolution.  sunday was the second release.  we’d also  been looking at an xbox360 (gears of war looked interesting to me) and we’d found some games so it wasn’t just for one game anymore

saturday we bought an X and a handful of games :o  saturday evening the lines had started forming for the wii, and i just do NOT care that much about, well, virtually anything, honestly.  hooked up the X and played with it

sunday we went down to ikea to look at tv stand furniture.  b/c salvation army is coming tomorrow (wednesday) to pick up our old ones.  and a bunch of other crap that we’re trying to get rid of in order to de-clutter the damned house.  might work, but all the other work i’ve put in seems to have backslid b/c the whole house is a big mess again :(  ended up picking up the one we were planning to do with the new living room center, so that’s handy.  on the way home, we decided to stop at best buy (again) and look at their flat panels.  b/c our tv is almost 25″ deep, and the stand is 24″ deep (deep as they came) and i wasn’t sure it would fit when we put up the rest of the center.  ended up buying a 32″ hd flat panel b/c it was only 600$ :o  did remember to buy the power cable-strips (squids) that we went for at least.

sunday evening i spent putting together (most of) the tv stand and hooking up the new TV.  we’re planning on maybe giving the TV to SA tomorrow (if I can move it downstairs, i’ll keep it.  If I can move it  at all, I’m going to ask my parents if they want it; otherwise, it’s going with whoever can carry it :o) the new Tv is much smaller, and yet larger :)

sinks, check! 15 December, 2006 at 12:04 pm

monday i got the master fixed up.  when the pipes were all connected and screwed down, the top doesn’t wobble anymore yay.

wednesday i worked on the hall.  with some pvc cement and some of the bits i’d bought over the 4 day saga, i managed to get the sink together.  noticed last night that there appears to be a leak somewhere, so i need to figure that out.  probably need to tighten a nut.  need to look into that this weekend, figure out which bit is leaking.  hopefully it’s one of the real bits that i can just tighten, not the cobble job i did to connect the drain to the trap bits.  didn’t REALLY fit (like a 1.25″ into a 1.5″ or something; i put a reducing washer in, and put on a screw-down connector, but the washer makes it a little high so the connector didn’t necessarily screw on right;  i think i have other sizes of the screwdown, including some with a deeper thread that might connect better)

this weekend i need to do the living room bath (“powder room”), where the bits only technically fit (as in, the distance between walls is EXACTLY the measurement that we got off the vanity top … could be tricky to get in, but we’ll see what happens)

also need to pack up the pewter/etc off the entertainment center, so they can take it wednesday.  need to get the other one cleared off and probably into the hall so they can get to it too.  salvation army’s picking up a bunch of the furniture crap we decided we don’t need/don’t want anymore.  they’re nice, but they don’t really fit, especially with a baby on the way.  so we’re taking the deduction for getting rid of it, since it’s in good condition still an’ all.

so, i have another weekend that will be busier than my weeks!  (and this is likely to go for another month or two, still, as the backroom has barely been touched; and the living room needs to be stripped so they can do the floors early january … then everything needs to be put back (and mounted to the walls with the “child safety tip-proofing” straps)

*sigh* haven’t played online much this week, been messing with the bathroom most nights :/

trapped! 11 December, 2006 at 4:48 pm

replaced two of the vanities this weekend. will do the last one next weekend. didn’t really get started saturday, b/c i needed a wrench bigger than what i had, and after we got that we ended up at babies r us somehow ;o

sunday i finished taking out the hall vanity and we went out bought the replacement (we’d checked and they had some in stock).  put it in, only took ~30 minutes.  the connections for the cutoff to the faucets wouldn’t go back on, so i needed new, but that’s just screw this end in, screw hat end on, done.  and hte trap didn’t line up.  but a quick trip would fix that.

so before we went back out, i took out the master.  we picked up another vanity and the bits i thought i needed, came home.  bits don’t work, wtf.  haul the new vanity into place, and the support on the back kinda is where the trap and the cutoff is … take out support (losing the two drawers, incidentally, b/c i had to take off the rails that connected to said support) and slide the vanity in.  it’s a little further from the wall than the old one, weird.  and the top’s a little off balance.  double weird.  and the trap is 2″ lower than the drain ends…
back out, get another type of cuttoff/faucet hoses, and some other bits of  drain-trap pipe stuff.  bring it home.  hoses work now, pipes not so much.  gave up and got dinner at that point.  tonight i get to try to fix the traps still!  whee!  and when i end up at home depot, i’m gonna get some shims to try to balance up the master properly :/

wheeeeee

house cleaning 30 November, 2006 at 12:46 pm

ugh.

i spent (as i’ve blogged) the lat month or so cleaning the house by steps and stages.  last weekend, after t-day, i was home by myself.  kiir was in atlanta with her folks.  k was at camp/playtime at the PetsHotel (kennel).  nothing all weekend except what i wanted.  I could play online (started eq2 again a few weeks ago) and not worry about it.  NOTHING TO DO.

i mean, except put away 7 baskets of her laundry in the master and disassemble the queen bed so they could deliver the new king.  and move the old queen to the basement.  fold and deal with the bed-o-laundry.  swap the spare room’s queen for our old queen.  laundry.  take her car in for maintenance.  friend’s party. sleep.  shred a ton of crap.  clean the basement room.  clean/touch up the living room and other areas that i’ve been through.  prep the house for my MIL’s visit this weekend.

sunday i said “fuck it” and played on the computer most of the day.  I got everything but the backroom and the touchup done, but figured i had this free time and ability to play on the computer, i wanted to play SOME at least.  mostly b/c i don’t usually get to play around hving to do all the cleaning tasks on our weekend schedules right now.  b/c there’s gonna be a baby so everything needs to be clean.

her mom’s in town this weekend.  then i need to spend the next few weekends cleaning the backroom and stripping the living room of whatever i can so they can strip the carpet and install hardwood first week of january.  so much cleaning!!!

and i 100% expect her mom to arrive this afternoon and comment on how messy the living room or basement are.  b/c, yaknow, the living room has a pile of stuff in the middle that I just never got around to processing and putting away.  mostly i could have thrown it on the sofa in the backroom and called it “handled” but I wanted to put it away WELL

weekend 2 of 4 5 November, 2006 at 7:21 pm

this was the second weekend on our “clean everything up!!!” schedule.

last weekend was k’s room, baby;s room and the hallway. I threw out ~4-5 bags of trash. but everything was still really cluttered. not quite as bad as before, but still. actually baby’s room didn’t change. k’s room got a bit cleaner, and the hall lost a bunch of stuff as we sorted through the boxes etc. and i took out K’s closet shelf and pseudo hangbar

this weekend was master bedroom/guest bedroom. which LARGELY would consist of putting away the 6 baskets upstairs and then folding the other 3-4 baskets worth in the guest room so it could get put away too. spent most of hte weekend working at trying to get the closets done in k/baby. got the parts, then i needed to trim them. cordless hacksaw… keeps jumping and won’t go very far, fine. hand hacksaw boom done that step. drill holes. drill bit doesn’t fit the screwdriver. oops, it’s a screwdriver anyway, wouldn’t hold regardless. drill – dead battery. many hours later, i’ve done baby’s closet. k’s is still on hold, probably until next weekend

i took one bag of trash (and one of bottles) from the master, and i moved all the furniture around to where we decided we needed to put it to hold the king bed we bought saturday.

and all that work, you can barely freakin’ tell. the upstairs is STILL a bloody mess. next weekend’s the living room! (the following is kindof a catchup weekend b/c we have other commitments … maybe i’ll finish the upstairs before t-day?)

*sigh* such a slow and annoying process :(
