all afternoon evening and night, eeeesh

bark bark bark bark bark.  i need to go pee.  i need more water.  i need to pee again.  i gotta go bathroom.  i wanna play.  i wanna sit on your lap.  i want you on the sofa.  i want to play.  i wanna sit on your lap.  i wanna get off your lap.  i wanna bitch at you b/c you’re still sitting down and i’m not on your lap and the fact that i went and got up isn’t relevant it’s all your fault i should be on your lap

i’m not tired, i wanna do something, lets play, there’s someone at the door, they’re gone now, they’re back, they’re gone, they could have been back, this was a test, can i have a treat?

mr k went to camp this morning.  b/c mr k SERIOUSLY needs to be more tired :o  kind of starting to reconsider my idea of MTh static and then T/W optionals.  I wanna leave him MTh b/c then the people used to seeing him still get to see him an’ all.  but MWF might be better (although last night was one night off from camp, and he was full power, so not sure it would really help)

seriously?  he needs camp every day.  i don’t have the energy right now after work to take him out for a long walk.  and it’s cold, so he doesn’t want a long walk.  i let him choose the basics of the path.  he always chooses fields/library in the cold, never wants to go to the lake.  b/c it’s freezing (or below) outside.  can’t say i particularly blame him, I s’pose.  but the fields is 1.5-2.0 mi.  lake walk can hit 5 mi i think i measured last summer.  but camp every day?  that gets really expensive :/  and since i keep putting him in weekends so i can clean up large scale items in our declutter/clean process, and preparing for the floors to be redone, that’d be 7 days.  plus a few overnights on the weekend.  in january he’s in for a week (day and night) when they put in the new floors.

i may need to work the daily camp into the budget, though.  which of course means kiir has to take him in every morning, since i usually go for the 6:40 train, and dropoffs don’t start until 7:00.  which makes me too late for the 7:10.  dropping him off makes me a full hour later :/  which I’ll do if it comes to it, b/c i love my puppy, but damn is it annoying.  i need to find out if 7 really is earliest for dropoffs or if I can get him in earlier than that …

K’s bordetella (kennel cough) is a 1yr vaccine. except the hotel wants it every 6 mo. which means we never get a reminder from the vets.

apparently it ran out on saturday. they let him in today, but he needs it before coming back. kiir called me on my way home to tell me (she dropped k off this morning; first day of the new job). so i stop at the vets to make an appointment.

except the next appointment they have isn’t until the 7th.

OF NOVEMBER!!!

they recommend going to one of the other petsmart banfield pet hospital vets things. yathink?

so i get to look those up tomorrow and see what i can do (assuming i can get onto the freakin’ network tomorrow) …

of course, this means hes not getting camp this week. which is gonna drive me batshit bonkers.

last wednesday, k accidentally bit someone at camp (they were leaving, and failed the part where k has to be the first dog removed b/c he goes batshit bonkers otherwise).

so this wednesday the county came by and checked him, and put him on his 10-day quarantine. starting from last wednesday (at least it wasnt 10 days strting from when they managed to come out)

today, they came and checked, and said “yep, he’s cute and friendly and cute and doesn’t have rabies”, click quarantine over :o

so, i figure biting a person gives dogs 10-day rabies. It’s like a 24-hour flu, but longer. and rabies :o

first, of puppies:

wednesday i was home (conference over, not working (a week of 13hr days, screw it !!!)) and got up ~8am. by 8:30am k had barked and whined enough to annoy me. so i dropped him at camp for the day. i wasn’t in the mood for puppy walks every couple hours (to wit, he’s been on 4 today in ~10 hours)

wednesday i go to pick him up, and i get called into the managers office. like being called to the principles office, but i’m the parent not the child :o “we had a little incident today, k-line bit someone” wtf? k ??? k never bites anyone! i mean, if he were defending himself ok, but just walked up and bit someone’s calf? no effing way! but they weren’t reporting it (“oh, so he didn’t break skin?” “he did” uh, then you policy dictates the hospital/dr’s, THEIR policy dictates reporting to the county … ?) Of course, I still havent’ gotten a call from the county, so i’m confused. but i’m counting thu-sun as 4 days for if they call on monday about the 10-day quarantine. anyway, further details come out slowly. apparently someone wasn’t following the procedures/rules. probably someone new, didn’t think it was important. See, K has this issue. he completely spazzes when somoene leaves the room. and if you take a dog with you? look out, he’s pissed now, you’re trying to run off and play with someone else!!!!

it seems like what happened was he was doing his barking nippingthing, and accidentally caught someone. small skin puncture. oh, did i mention the silver-dollar sized scab on my ankle or the 3″ scar on my wrist from leashes? and you’re flipped out b/c he accidentally nipped someone??? cmon!!!

of jobs: found a posting (well kiir did) on craigs that’s in columbia and C/C++ IPC/multiprocessing linux app (well, sounds like a device driver to me frankly; embedded raid controllers) so i’ve spent the last two days working out a cover letter and updating my resume a bit. not that the updates are really necessarily relevant to this company (my security training) but figure it can’t hurt to add them.

except i can’t get neooffice (os-x openoffice native) to play nice. actually i may have had this problem when i did the resume the first time. all i know, it royally sucks how much effort this is. i spend less time and attention writing whole chunks of VE/EO than i’m spending on this freakin’ resume. !

I also did a salary check on monster (monster.salary.com) and for a SWE V (which is approx what i am/would be) i’d be making 90k. that’s the bottom 25%, btw. 105 is median. this is in dc area. where i live, yeah. i’m grossly underpaid :o which is one reason i’m starting to look. i may not move, but having a competing offer, my company might (MIGHT) be willing to cough up some more :o

k had a nice weekend.

friday he had a grooming appt @ 2pm, so he could be all clean and have a new bandana an’ stuff.

saturday we went to my parents for my dad’s annual memorial day beginning of cookout season cookout (really, these days we make it to memorial day 1st and labor day last, generally, only). took k with us and he spent all afternoon with people throwing his ball and telling him how cute he was and giving him treats from the table (during the actual meal, i tied him to a tree so he wasn’t begging, but then i went and pulled the meat off a drumstick for him so he could have barbequed chicken like everyone else (except me, of course :p))

get home and he’s real tired. sunday morning i’m cooking b/c i’m not taking anything with us sunday afternoon. determined that, while K does like pineapple juice and will eat small chunks of pineapple if accompanied by juice, he’s less enthused by big chunks of pineapple on their own.

took a few dishes of food over for the afternoon, and K got to play (outside in the oppressive heat, he wants to go on record with) with cleopatra (a ~4-6mo sheltie) and a bunch of kids. Turns out he’s ambivalent on both dishes we took, but the cornbread was decent he felt ;)

in the evening we put the corn-cobs in the big fire to cook … apparently that was bad. the side on the coals burned in every one. ones we turned burned all around ;/ but we had 6 people and 12 corn, so everyone managed to get almost one ears worth :o

When i finished my first piece, i held it up for K. who then proceeded to do one of those things dogs can’t do but k can. he started eating the corn off the cob like a regular person. I swear dogs jaws aren’t supposed to be able to do that :o so he got hisself some corn (admittedly, much of it was burnt)

came home, he went to sleep quickly. spent most of today sleeping, until about 8pm he decided he realllly wanted to go for a walk :o

go figure. sleeping again now though :)

took k for his evening walk when i got home. sat down to read for a bit.

and like 20 minutes he wanted to go out, where he wandered and explored and stuff and then came back inside. for 5 minutes, then he was very awake and ready for a walk. *sigh*

took him out again, and this time we met gelly (gilly? something like that). she was playing a bit with nelly and tater. don’t ask me, i didn’t name them :o

so k went to play. nelly figured out how to grab his leash to try to control him, so i actually took k off leash. and he ran around a bunch, i threw the tennis balls for k and gelly and nelly chased them.

important discovery: italian greyhounds might be marginally faster than K :o nelly kept catching him. gelly i think may be a mix, but she was pacing him on chasing the ball. but she kept overshooting/missing, so k would grab it. and nelly would be tearing along around them

spent an hour i think throwing the ball. everyone was well tired when i finished

‘cousre, that was 10 minutes ago, and k’s bouncing around the house. that might be b/c i’m eating ice cream (part of your balanced diet when used in place of food, right?) and kiir’s eating steak :o

inspector guy never showed yesterday. so we’re not really sure if K’s clear (the 10 days are up) or not (it says they’ll come back at the end of the quarantine)

Which means, at the least, that K’s not going to make it to his 9AM playsession on time. B/c the guy I need to call hasn’t come in yet (been calling sincei got up at 7:30 :o) Hopefully he gets in at 9, and will say “yeah, you’re fine unless he’s showing any behaviour changes/etc” then K can get there 9:30 or 10.

If this takes all day again, however, i’m going to be annoyed. And looking into getting him a saturday date, b/c my antidepressants don’t let me get through a whole day of him whimpering and whining about wanting to play.

Took him out for 45 minutes yesterday. Violated the rules by playing ball with him on the soccer fields, then a 5 mile walk to/around hte lake. tired him out a bunch, but that’s gone now :o

Edit: Guy got in about 8:50. I know this b/c he wasn’t there at 8:45 and was at 8:55 (my clock is 10 fast apparently). Got the go ahead, but he wanted to see K so met me at petsmart. He said K looked fine and so K is in camp, now. an hour later than he wanted, but he was still only the 6th dog into the room ;)

So, we’re down to 33 hours. I’ve made it 8? days without him getting camp. The weekend was the hardest (tomorrow’s not going to be fun either) b/c i was home all day. Turns out when he’s all whimpery and whiny, it only takes a few hours to burn through my “all day” antidepressant :/

the health&human services / animal control guy should be coming back tomorrow to say “yep, he doesn’t have rabies, he must have bitten her for some reason other than being a psychotic killer” Such as he was spooked and thought he was being attacked?

And then the following morning, K gets to make his triumphant (and vindicated) return. I’m trying to teach him to prance for when we go back ;) And bailey’s in solitary, theoretically indefinitely, so that’s good. Couldn’t happen to a nicer person.

went by today to change hs thursday to friday and put a note on his record to move him to big dogs if bailey is there.

apparently bailey isn’t allowed in day camp anyway, he harrasses the dogs (duh). apparently he isn’t allowed in BIG DOG daycamp either. Because he harasses the dogs. This should set of alarms :o so they have him restricted to day care only (they keep him for the day, and he gets 2 30-min play periods). I guess they put care in with camp for hteir playtimes, b/c this didn’t sound like a new restriction :o

so K has a note on his record that he is NEVER to be placed in a situation that MIGHT lead to him associating with bailey in ANY way. None. Nada. Zip. Zilch.

And bailey has a note restriting him to solo-play. indefinitely :o he’s on solitary confinement! YES! F***ER! HAH!

Also got more details on what happened a week ago. Apparently he bit K once, and then kept going for him, and K kept trying to back away and get away from the psycho. And the girl reached down to get K to keep him from getting bitten, and he spooked. Frankly, I’d've picked up bailey, since he was the one CAUSING trouble, but they might have figured K was less of a danger since he’s always so calm and personable. Except, apparently, when a jackass has bitten him and left him bleeding. Then he is (understandably, i think) less personable and a little more edgy :o

thursday K would have gone to camp for te second trip. but, obviously, he didn’t.

the other break is usually a day longer, so friday was the sunday in effect. i came home midday to take him for a walk since we were going to les mis and he was going to be stuck at home needing to go to the bathroom for about 5 or 6 hours longer than usual. so he got a midday walk.

today is time+1. getting a bit hyper and annoying. but he’s OK still, so far. by friday, however, this is gonna suck :o
