thanks for what ? 25 November, 2007 at 9:37 am

So, we g ot back from our annual thanksgiving traipse to kiir’s folks. checking in at the airport was fun. two suitcases (one for us, one for him), the big stroller (we took it down so we could leave it at their place since we never use it and we were just going to donate it off otherwise), a carseat (not OUR carseat, b/c that’s in our car, but a new 40$ carseat that we figured was good to let the airlines whack-a-mole with), desmond, three carry ons (one for me, one for her, one for his butt) … ended up taking the stroller to the gate and gate-checking it. it was convenient to haul the bags around ;)

then we hauled that all over to car rental and picked up a car. and spent ~30 minutes or something getting set up to go. WHEE! ended up stealing a towel from the inlaws to put under the carseat on the way back b/c we decided it just wasn’t really properly stable. It was OK, and we drove out with it, but we decided we wanted to make it a bit better for the return trip.

spent most of the time with one or the other of us holding des b/c he was overwhelmed by the sheer number of people and kept wanting to go to someone he knew. and when he was willing to crawl around, people kept picking him up. I especially liked when dad picked up a happily crawling baby, and almost immediately handed him to kiir “he wants mommy” … uh, no, he wanted to not get picked up man! (she then handed him to me, and I took him back to his starting point, sat him down, and let him set off again, happy as a clam now that he was crawling like he wanted to)

every year at thanksgiving (well, for hte last few, don’t really remember doing it before that) dad goes around the table “everyone say something they’re thankful for” … which is boring and tedious and no one wants to participate. Zebras are popular at thanksgiving. (kiir went for wildebeasts this year, to be different). I “spoiled the mood” (my mother in law … makes you wonder why we do this yearly, eh?) when I said I was thankful for desmond being happy and healthy. I don’t even remember that dad did a serious one. grandpa did, happy for family being together, and my wifes sisters husband parents were there and they’re raising their granddaughter, and were thankful for her. but 3 out of 16 (? sounds right) why bother?

my sisterinlaw got all pissy one morning b/c des was awake and crying and I took him out ot the common room to see if he’d play with his toys or crawl around. she suggested that i should take him back to our room so that those who didn’t have kids didn’t have to suffer them, b/c it wasn’t her fault we brought him with us, and parents are so self centered. i took him for an hour walk to cool me off after that. at 7am … wheee. too bad i couldn’t find my car keys to get the stroller, certainly would’ve beeen less strain on my arms :o

overall des had fun, he likes seeing his nonnie and his uncles. i could do without his aunts a lot of the time, but his uncles actually aren’t raging egomaniacs, so they’re cool.

back from trip 27 August, 2006 at 8:20 pm

finished the drive back yesterday afternoon/evening. didn’t leave her grandmothers until ~3:30 or so, though, so relaxed a bunch before the last couple hour leg.

brought stuff in last night, started doing laundry today, cleaned up the bags of stuff since now i could actually put things together better than in the car

went grocery shopping today, and gutted the fridge of all the stuff that was in there when we left. i ran back in on the way out to take out the trash. so the fridge just got mushed stuff :o

also picked k up. and dropped 600$ to get my puppy out of hock !!!!!!

ouch.

disney vacation 21 August, 2006 at 3:11 pm

oh, yeah, so, we’re in fla for our vacation :o

left friday before last, drove to richmond, drover to atlanta, drove to orlando. whee

monday we checked into our hotel (spent sunday at one of the hceaper sites) and started with the parks.

we’ve been taking it pretty lazy, doing a few hours in the morning, coming back ~2ish to sit in the room and rest, take a nap, etc, then going back out ~5ish for some more before dinner

pretty relaxing. been ignoring the office :) that’s been good :) (doing some work in the background right now, updating the stats pages, b/c they’re relatively simple to do remote)

sitting around the room t oday. went out last night for the late hours at magic kingdom, and stayed out until ~1/30 or so. we were planning to go to the early hours at animal kingdom today to take pics on the safari with the good camera, but when i woke up at 7,we neither one seemed enamoured with getting up. so i went back to sleep and got up ~10am instead :o so we’re sitting around the day and relaxing. both sunburned yesterday, and my back hurts (the camera bag appears to not be well structured for my back :o) and her feet, so we figured we could spend a day doing nothing ;)

going out in an hour or two. dinner’s at 6:30 or so, and then we’re going back to magic kingdom to take more pics of the fireworks and castle. i took ~200 pics of the fireworks show last night on the big camera, so tonight is her turn :)

my back is killing me though :/

broadway, NYC and NYE 2 January, 2006 at 1:38 pm

went to NYC on the 29th, came back yesterday.

trip up wasn’t too bad, amtrak to NY/penn then the subway from 34th to 23rd to 42nd (yeah, we kinda got on the wrong direction) (i looked at the train, it said, right on top, that it was going towards where i wanted to go! … of course, apparently NYC labels their trains with both endpoints, order unrelated DOH) When we turned around, while the doors were still open, the guy on the PA is announcing where the train is going, what the next 5 stops are, and then what the next stop is, again, in case you missed it. THEY COULDN’T'VE DONE THAT GOING THE OTHERWAY??

trip back, we actually picked the right train. :)

Saw Wicked and Spamalot. USA was having a 2 day marathon of law&order (SVU friday, CI saturday), so we spent the rest of the time watching that ;) looked out the window and shook our head at the idjits standing in rain/ice/snow at times square for 5+ hours before the ball dropped.
