this morning during my shower, i start soaping up and …. suddenly there’s a skin bubble filled with soapy water … that’s just plain disgusting

apparently the macleods have been whacking too many folks lately :o

macduff, macbeth, we’ve got our eyes on you!

back from trip at 8:20 pm

finished the drive back yesterday afternoon/evening. didn’t leave her grandmothers until ~3:30 or so, though, so relaxed a bunch before the last couple hour leg.

brought stuff in last night, started doing laundry today, cleaned up the bags of stuff since now i could actually put things together better than in the car

went grocery shopping today, and gutted the fridge of all the stuff that was in there when we left. i ran back in on the way out to take out the trash. so the fridge just got mushed stuff :o

also picked k up. and dropped 600$ to get my puppy out of hock !!!!!!

ouch.

thunder X’s at 8:16 pm

Ok, here’s a question.

looking at the forecast for here, and i’m seeing:

tonight is thunder storms

tomorrow is thunder showers

tomorrow night is thunder storms

wtf is the difference between a thunderstorm and a thundershower????

disney vacation 21 August, 2006 at 3:11 pm

oh, yeah, so, we’re in fla for our vacation :o

left friday before last, drove to richmond, drover to atlanta, drove to orlando. whee

monday we checked into our hotel (spent sunday at one of the hceaper sites) and started with the parks.

we’ve been taking it pretty lazy, doing a few hours in the morning, coming back ~2ish to sit in the room and rest, take a nap, etc, then going back out ~5ish for some more before dinner

pretty relaxing. been ignoring the office :) that’s been good :) (doing some work in the background right now, updating the stats pages, b/c they’re relatively simple to do remote)

sitting around the room t oday. went out last night for the late hours at magic kingdom, and stayed out until ~1/30 or so. we were planning to go to the early hours at animal kingdom today to take pics on the safari with the good camera, but when i woke up at 7,we neither one seemed enamoured with getting up. so i went back to sleep and got up ~10am instead :o so we’re sitting around the day and relaxing. both sunburned yesterday, and my back hurts (the camera bag appears to not be well structured for my back :o) and her feet, so we figured we could spend a day doing nothing ;)

going out in an hour or two. dinner’s at 6:30 or so, and then we’re going back to magic kingdom to take more pics of the fireworks and castle. i took ~200 pics of the fireworks show last night on the big camera, so tonight is her turn :)

my back is killing me though :/

and it’s a …. baby??? 10 August, 2006 at 9:19 pm

last week we decided to paint up the spare room, since it was bereft of furniture and all anyway.

and we decided we’d go ahead and set it up as a nursery, since we’re unlikely toreally need the room before then anyway. it’s only a couple years at this point

right?

except, apparently, not so much with the right-ness part :o we are, apparently, NOT waiting that extra year. oops

and now for something completely the same at 8:12 pm

OK, so i decided to switch off of MT. I’ve always had issues with MT, so what the heck :)

also, since this is php not perl, it runs server cleaner stuff.

uh yeah. honest, that made sense :p

we are go for jobsearch 4 August, 2006 at 7:33 am

two days ago i made the mistake of saying something about the poor coding and resultant insecurities of the site. new manager (oh yeah, my manager changed as of 1 august from the guy who hired me and knew my dad to someone else) went all apeshit (ok, admittedly, it needed to be fixed, i’d just never been allowed to fix it, b/c it might break something). we went and talked to rob, i got permission (shocking, with manager lady breathing fire?)

yesterday she came by to see if i’d finished (i’d told rob, and left her a vm, go figure) and this time rob asked about the admin interfaces and if they were ssl yet. which sent her batshit again. so i went and finished that up. one thing aboutt he new manager, i’m getting to do some of the fixes i’ve wanted to do for a while. downside, they all have to be done yesterday and i’m the one it keeps coming down on for not having done them. *sigh*

but during yesterday’s conversation, i found out a few things. (a) when one of the systems got hit last year (a system where i’m not the admin of record, and i have no sites), it gave the company a black eye (it was during a recompete). apparently ceo wanted to “bring the hammer down on you guys” (i’m not even sure who “you guys” are!), but old manager stood up and defended us. and new manager backed him up with “accidents happen” and our assurances that we’d gone through the code and it was ocked down much more. apparently she took this to mean “all code that runs on everything” rather than “all of HIS code/code on THAT system”.

then there was the veiled threat. which she said wasn’t a threat, but obviously was. the decision wouldn’t come from her. it’s not what she would want. but if i get hacked, i get fired. and she’ll throw me under the bus as a bad admin/programmer/whatever.

what’s impressive is this is after a weekend when (supposedly) “over 500 government systems were hacked” … did all those admins get whacked? (no; afaik no one’s been whacked).

she’s dangerous b/c she knows enough keywords that she’s annoying. SQL injection is a well known exploit and if we’re vulnerable to it that’d be really bad after all the publicity it’s gotten …

SQL INJECTION is a class of exploits lady!!!!

so last night, my job search went active, b/c i don’t need this damoclesian sword crap.

what do we do we paint paint paint 31 July, 2006 at 10:28 pm

feel like i should file this under “work” :o

spent the last two days painting the upstairs bedroom. since all the furniture was out for hte floor from a couple months back, we figured it was a good time to paint. and we decided we’d go ahead and paint the nursery, since i’m not gonna want to re-RE-paint it again in a couple years when we need it :o

doing a split wall. bottom 1/3rd (we levelled it at the window sill) is “sunset orange”, and the rest is some shade of sky blue. did the ceiling in a paler shade of blue. and except where the paint from the ceiling splotched on the wall, i couldn’t tell the difference between the ceiling and the old wall color. which is sad, b/c they were quite different (pale blue vs a fairly green blue)

anyway, did the ceiling yesterday, then we started taping off the border for me to paint the orange. ended up going out to home depot and picking up a “straight line tool”. it’s just like a plumb bob, but horizontal and less accurate (you hold the end and unwind to where you want. but you’re holding both ends and trying to figure out a level in between. it has hooks to hang off the line, but you have to wind the line in every two or three bits to re-chalk it. i think it came out MOSTLY straight) taped, and did the orange last night. it was splotchy and you could see the strokes b/c of the darker base

this morning after dropping k off, i did the ceiling a second coat to even it up, then the orange again. then lunch, blue. that took freakin’ FOR-EVER. like 2-3 hours. picked up k, dinner, went back to do second coat of upper blue and third of lower orange.

Both nights, kiir’s gone to bed before i finished. it’s a lotta work. and we intend to do a stencil border between blue & orange (found it on disney’s site with the household paints; it’s big up, small, big down, small , big up, etc, with a character stencil in each square. we’re doing a pooh theme, so it’d be pooh, piglet, tigger … we’re not sure how it’s goign to work out. last time i did stencils they were poor, but they were also pencil stencils, and these are real painting stencils so …) it’ll take a bunch of work, but we think it’ll look really nice.

in the meantime, i’m tired and i’m sore. and before the shower, i was dripping wet b/c the fans were off while I painted to keep the paint from drying badly (as it was, i couldn’t tell where i’d been if i took like a 2 minute break to drink some water; freakin’ paint dried!!!! apparently i was suckingall moisture from the room or something :o)

programming, writing, geeking 22 July, 2006 at 11:46 pm

been looking at ajax. thinking of a couple useless things i can do with it to practice, get my chops as ’twere

keep going back to the idea of writing stuff again, too. i get the urge every 12-18 months, play around with it for a couple weeks until work/k/finances/etc drag me down too far to think about anything creative :/

thinking i may put together a totally useless little ajax based writer/viewer for stuff. of course, it’s likely that the ajax toy would be all that got done (assuming i did even that much) before i dropped it again. haven’t really written anything since college, too busy with everything else.

feels like my life got away from me at some point. and god, looking at jobs, i feel like i’m turning into a fucking corporate drone. one thing about my current position: the flex time lets me phone it in on bad days. and i get a lot of time to look into new toys (heck, this weekend i’ve learned the basics of AJAX and ruby on rails … oi).

somebody stop the world. i wanna get out.
